"Restart Later"!

Micrsoft released a series of updates recently, which although most people scoff at because they think its a symbol of a shoddy operating system, I think is better than not issuing the update at all. I think that Microsoft's "Automatic Updates" are a great idea especially because people can allow critical updates to be installed either automatically or give a notice when updates are ready to be installed.

However, a major problem with the update process is that once you install the updates, Windows asks you if you want to "Reboot Now" or "Reboot Later." A sane person would assume that clicking "Reboot Later" would mean what is has meant for the last twenty years: that the user will reboot the computer later on when it is convenient for him or her.

Well, when you click "Restart Later" Windows insists on bringing up a popup every five minutes asking you to the same exact question. The popup window interrupts all other open windows, so it is quite annoying if you are in the middle of class taking notes. Can you imagine stopping everything just to restart the computer?

Even worse, if you leave the window alone, Windows BY ITSELF says it will AUTOMATICALLY restart my computer for me even though I am using it! I kept hitting "Restart Later" and the computer kept interrupting me. Apparently "Restart Later" actually means "Restart whenever Microsoft feels like it."
